April 2, 2018Signs You Should Consider an Online TEFL Certification
Are you considering getting TEFL certified? Here are some signs you should consider an online TEFL.
There’s a lot to be said for taking an in-person TEFL course. The training is face-to-face, you have peers to interact with, and you don’t have to worry about accountability. However, in the changing educational landscape of today, online courses are becoming increasingly desirable. Here are some signs that you should consider an online TEFL certification.
1 Lifestyle Constraints
Are you busy? Do you have a partner or a family to take care of? Are you working a full-time job? If you answered yes to any of these, then an online TEFL training is probably a good option for you. For one, your study time will be flexible so that you can fit it into your packed schedule. You can work at your own pace and take as little or as much time as you need. Secondly, you can learn more about TEFL before moving yourself (and possibly other people) to a foreign country. This will save you a lot of worry and stress and help you make smarter decisions once you do have your certification.
2 Different Learning Preferences
If there’s one thing we know as educators, it’s that everyone has their own unique learning preferences. The beauty of a high quality online TEFL course is that it can accommodate many of these. Perhaps you learn best when you have the flexibility to rewatch materials several times. Alternatively, you may prefer having access to training staff when you need it, but don’t like feeling pressured to be “in class” every week.
While in-person trainings can be great for many, not everyone thrives in that more rigid classroom environment. Some learn best when they have access to a wide variety of material formats (think video lessons, audio recordings, downloadable documents) mixed with live trainer support on an extended basis.
3 Timing Issues
Sometimes your life won’t fit into the 4-week training blocks of an in-person course provider. Life’s timing isn’t always so neat and tidy. Perhaps you have an important commitment and can’t get away. Or maybe you are a student still finishing their last term at university. Regardless of what the timing issue is, you shouldn’t have to slow down or sacrifice getting your TEFL certification just because you have other things going on in your life. Taking an online TEFL course in these situations can be a great alternative that gives you the time and space to go at a more measured pace.
